Empower Users to Create Better Content with the Adobe Express Embed SDK | by Colene Chow | Aug, 2024

Learn how to integrate Adobe Express’ editing and Firefly-powered AI capabilities into your own web apps.

The Adobe Express Embed SDK enables partners to embed Adobe Express editing and AI capabilities into their own web app or website. This means that you can give your (client’s) users, whatever their skill level, powerful tools to create standout content and simplify common creative tasks — without them having to leave your environment.

The Embed SDK is an easy-to-integrate, customizable, all-in-one JavaScript library that lets you embed the full Adobe Express editor on your own website or app. Users can create within the editor as they would in Adobe Express, with access to thousands of templates, fonts, stock images, and videos.

We’ve made it even easier to keep your users focused by exposing only the features that are most relevant to what they need. So the relevant tools are revealed at the right time for specific tasks. There are two ways to do it:

  • Quick actions: Embed contextual and streamlined editing tools for images and videos with just a few lines of code. Your users get instant results with just one click editing tools.
  • Modules: A new feature that lets you embed contained mini-editing experiences, which focus on what your users need, when they need it. The first two that are available are Generate Image and Edit Image, with more modules on the way.

In the latest version of the SDK, we’ve improved the way it’s initialized and broken each workflow (full editor, quick actions, and modules) into individual classes to help you simplify your integration.

Give end-users an easy way to start a creative design workflow from within your own applications. Try it out for yourself in our Embed SDK demo.

Both the Generate Image and Edit Image modules are powered by Adobe Firefly, our family of creative generative AI models that are designed to be safe for commercial use.

Generate Image enables your users to generate an image from a simple text prompt. For example, they can quickly generate an image to enhance their social media posts, posters, or flyers. They can also use reference images to influence and match the structure of the generated variations.

Edit Image, on the other hand, gives users several image editing capabilities, including filters, opacity, remove background, and the Firefly-powered Generate Fill feature. The latter enables users to seamlessly insert, remove, or replace people, objects and more with simple text prompts.

More modules — including Generate Template, Edit Video, Edit Template, and Generate Vector — are coming soon. These powerful features remove barriers between creative vision and a blank page by increasing the speed of work and discovery, so creators can be more imaginative and productive. Generate Template, for example, is tailored to what you’re looking for as it provides both designed and generated templates.

Also in the pipeline is support for mobile web apps as well as native mobile apps.

The Embed SDK is already being used by creator commerce platform Kajabi, where it’s implemented as part of the Creator Studio, a generative AI tool that enables users to quickly turn a single video into more than 40 pieces of marketing content.

“For those in course creation and education-based businesses, the integration with Kajabi is a match made in heaven,” said Roberto Blake, founder of Awesome Creator Academy. “It makes tasks like repurposing and marketing across multiple platforms feel less intimidating and time consuming — ideal for anyone running a one-person business or a small team.”

For Roberto, one of the most powerful features of the Kajabi integration is the ability to remove the background from a video in a single click. This is something that normally would require advanced editing skills, expensive lighting, and a green screen. Now it just requires well shot footage against a clean wall.

Built-in Adobe Express editing tools make it easier and faster for users of Kajabi Creator Studio to build and grow their brand.

Japan’s largest social network, LINE, has also used the Embed SDK: LINE Creative Lab provides advertisers and owners of LINE official accounts with powerful creation tools that help them easily produce effective designs for their marketing campaigns. See our recent blog post on how the team built the integration.

One of our latest Embed SDK partners is presono, a B2B marketing and sales platform designed to streamline the creation and management of presentations — from linear company presentations to interactive product presentations and trade fair apps. They empower customer-centric teams with data-driven analytics, enhancing productivity and driving increased revenue through engaging, on-brand content.

“Integrating Adobe Express has significantly enhanced our platform’s capabilities,” said Martin Behrens, presono’s CEO and co-founder. “The quick actions for cropping, resizing, and background removal in particular have been invaluable for our users, who often lack advanced graphic design skills. The integration allows them to easily edit images and create professional-grade content. Also, the extensive creative features — including templates and Generate Image — provide a wide array of design possibilities. This not only saved us development time but also ensures our clients have access to top-tier tools without needing additional expertise.”

Of course we also use the Embed SDK ourselves at Adobe: We’ve recently used it to natively integrate Adobe Express within Acrobat and Adobe Experience Manager Assets.

“I really like Acrobat’s Adobe Express integration, it opens up a lot of possibilities,” said a City Park and Recreation graphic design intern we talked to. “I was really impressed with how well it filled the background in. I’ll definitely be utilizing that more and more in the future.”

The Embed SDK makes Adobe Express even more versatile and lets you choose the editing experience that works for you.

The modules in particular enable you to surface a contextual, more intuitive editing experience. Give your users powerful editing capabilities and save valuable development time with the Embed SDK’s prebuilt editing modules, which only take a few weeks of development effort, not months.

We can’t wait to see how you integrate Adobe Express into your own apps with the Embed SDK. And we’d love your feedback: visit our Embed SDK forums and let us know how we can improve the Embed SDK’s developer experience further.
